Noise generated by HVAC, Chiller, Evaporator and Air Conditioning |
Noise generated by rooftop and ground-level HVAC equipment - chillers, boilers,
air handlers, etc. -- is fast becoming one of the most contentious environmental
problems in urban areas worldwide. As urban noise collides with residential sprawl,
residents and communities are demanding better noise abatement treatments for this
type of equipment.
Reflective sound enclosure and architectural screens like concrete or brick simply
redirect unwanted sound waves, and can actually increase noise
via unintentional reflected or bounced sound waves.
Absorptive noise barrier walls and sound baffles actually absorb the unwanted sound
waves and significantly reduce overall noise, minimizing the risk of unintentional
reflected noise. Therefore they are the single most effective tool for providing
unwanted noise reduction from HVAC, chillers and related sources.
The PI noise control Panel System actually "kills” the sound waves that hit it and
effectively provides noise reduction, therefore it is the perfect solution to HVAC
Noise, Chiller Noise, and Cooling Tower Noise; or to virtually any industrial noise
application. The noise absorptive panels are easy to install and maintenance free.
Since the System has such a high absorptive value the possibility of reflective
noise is eliminated.

Distinguishing Features of the Barrier Wall System |
The Barrier Walls system is simply thx most effective noise abatement solution available
for this very demanding application – outperforming and outlasting all other noise
reduction products in its class. Plus, it is an aesthetically pleasing HVAC sound
baffle with the added benefit of noise reduction.

Construction of Acoustical Panels |
The panels can be manufactured from aluminum or GI sheets to form a box-like modular
unit. They can be produced in two different thicknesses according to required damping
grade. Usually they are made in 50 or 100 mm thick pannel element. The exterior
sheet is usually manufactured from a minimum of 1.2 mm galvanized steel or Aluminum
sheets. The interior sheet shall be a minimum of 0.7 mm galvanized steel. The interior
sheet shall be perforated with 3 mm diameter holes on 5 mm centers in all areas
to provide min 40% open area. Panels are respectively insulated with 50 or 100 thick
40 Kg/m3 fiberglass.
Internal Acoustic Media (Fill)
40 Kg per cubic meter density of rock wool packed under not less than 5% compression
to eliminate voids. Material is moisture and corrosive resistant, non- combustible,
smokeless, odorless, and vermin proof. The mineral fiber fits into the panel cavity
against the perforated face.

|
|
|
Top Cap |
|
A top cap is required to protect the top row of panels from weather exposure. The
channel is positioned with legs down. A special designed top cap channel section
is usually formed from the same panel material. This top cap channel is bolted to
the top of every panel.

|
|
|
Doors |
|
Single swung metal acoustic doors complete with hardware and locks are available
for locations where outside access is required. Single & Double size gates can
also be supplied for the barrier wall system.

|
|
|
Erection and Assembly |
|
The panels are stacked on top of each other like building blocks until desired height
is attained, the wall is assembled by manually inserting panels to interlock with
adjacent columns to form a self supporting structure. It is important that the tongue
groove joints between the panels are clean fitted and the panels are level with
each other.

Powder Coating |
|
The noise Barrier Wall panels are powder coated. PI System offers powder coating
to standard RAL- colors. Customized* colors can be produced on extra cost to match
buildings or equipment if desired. The powder coated panels will retain original
color for many years with minimum fading.

Note |
|
Using of Acoustical Louvers in wall barrier applications like it has been proposed
by others is not applicable and it would be very expensive solution. Changing the
louver design in order to reduce the cost will leak to mal function of the louver
as it has been scientifically designed for sound travel and appropriate noise reduction.
The only internationally applied solutions for these applications are the proposed
wall barrier system ax described in this document. Below we are listing some examples
from different similar applications.
